For many Alabama lakefront owners and the boating community, Memorial Day is the unofficial kickoff of lakefront summer. In some Alabama lakes droves of people will pile into boats and hit the favorite swimming holes, lakeside restaurants and festivals to soak up the sunshine. I’ve done the heavy lifting for you and compiled a list of what’s going on around Alabama’s most popular lakes this weekend!
One of the best kept secrets in Alabama is Weiss Lake. It’s relatively sparse population and location lends itself to a pretty quiet Memorial Day weekend. Even with increased boat traffic, there’s still plenty of room for visitors to enjoy this massive body of water. This weekend marks the yearly opening of Jake’s on the Lake, a seasonal lakefront spot that’s popular every weekend for boaters and land lovers alike. Come play a game of cornhole and enjoy the great food and beautiful views of Weiss Lake. If you’re going to be over in Yellow Creek enjoying the falls or kayaking, there’s a new food truck in the gas station parking lot that’s been getting good reviews too!
Hands down the most popular lake for wake boats and skiers is the pristine, and deep waters of Smith Lake. Average depths of 80 to 100 feet deep with water clarity up to 20 feet, and its convenient location to Cullman and Birmingham make Smith a popular spot any time of year. For Memorial Day 2022 Smith Lake Park in Cullman will be having their Memorial Day celebration. Here’s what they have to say about the event:
The Smith Lake Park Memorial Day Weekend Music Festival happens Saturday, May 28, 2022 from 9am to 6pm.We’ll have arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, and live music! It’s also Opening Day for the Swimming Pool for the 2022 Season! The pool will also have kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards available for rent. Plus we’ll have our famous contests happening throughout the day. It’s Free Admission to the Park! Additional costs for camping, pool, and rentals. – Credit Alabama Travel
When major bass tournaments aren’t occurring on Lake Guntersville, you can enjoy some sightseeing with local tour companies like Lake and River Fun’s Memorial Day event:
